What is the Chinese gender calendar?
The Chinese gender calendar—also called a Chinese baby gender chart or Chinese gender predictor—is a traditional lookup table. A lunar age intersects with a lunar conception month to produce a boy or girl guess.
How we calculate lunar age
The calculator converts the birth and conception dates to the Chinese calendar, then uses the traditional “year count plus one” age convention. Ages outside the chart's common 18–45 range are limited to its nearest available row.
Where did the chart come from?
Many online stories connect it to the Qing dynasty or a royal tomb, but the exact origin is difficult to verify. It is safest to describe it as a widely circulated folk chart rather than a documented historical diagnostic method.
Is the Chinese gender predictor accurate?
No. A study using 2.8 million Swedish births found the Chinese lunar calendar method performed no better than tossing a coin. Enjoy the coincidence, but rely on qualified prenatal care for real information.
